Giving a wedding speech? There’s plenty to think about without worrying about microphone technique too. Thankfully, there are really only two things you need to remember.
Keep the microphone close to your mouth
This is the big one. Hold the microphone just a few inches from your mouth and keep it there while you’re speaking.
A microphone held down by your chest might look more relaxed, but it makes it much harder for everyone in the room to hear you. Speak normally and let the PA system do the work — there’s no need to shout.
Stay behind the speakers
Ever heard that horrible high-pitched squeal from a PA system? That’s feedback.
The easiest way to avoid it is to make sure you don’t wander in front of the speakers while holding the microphone. We’ll position everything correctly when we set up, so stay in the speaking area and you’ll be absolutely fine.
