A good wedding DJ can be brilliant. They’ll read the room, take requests and keep the dance floor moving. But if you already know exactly what you want to hear, there’s another option: do it yourself.
The DIY DJ wedding
More couples are perfectly happy creating their own wedding playlists using Spotify or another music service.
It gives you complete control. You can choose the songs you love, avoid the ones you absolutely don’t, and build different playlists for different parts of the day.
The bit you do still need is a proper sound system.

Then you simply connect your device and press play.
What about speeches and background music?
Your PA doesn’t have to sit unused until the evening party.
The same setup can be used for background music during the day and a microphone can be provided for speeches. Depending on the venue, we can also provide additional sound in another area — for example, music outside during your drinks reception.
When is a DJ the better option?
If you want someone actively choosing tracks, reading the dance floor, taking requests and keeping the party moving, book a DJ. That’s what they’re good at.
But if you’re the sort of couple who already has a very definite idea of what you want to hear, a DIY setup can be a simple alternative.
